Temple History and Significance
The Sri Lakshmi Tirupatamma Temple is one of the most popular and powerful temples in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. It is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi Tirupatamma, who is considered to be a divine incarnation of Shakti (power) and a symbol of devotion and sacrifice.
The story behind the temple dates back to the 17th century. According to local legends, Tirupatamma was born into a poor family in Penuganchiprolu village. She was a deeply spiritual girl, known for her devotion to Lord Venkateswara (Lord Balaji) from a very young age. Even after marriage, she continued her spiritual path and lived a very simple and disciplined life.
Her in-laws and husband could not understand her devotion. Over time, due to misunderstandings and false accusations, she was treated badly and ultimately gave up her life in sorrow. But after her death, the villagers and her family began to experience miracles in her name. It was believed that her soul had divine powers and began protecting the people.
Soon, a temple was built in her memory at the very place where she lived. Over the years, the temple became a powerful Shakti Peeth for devotees who come from across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to seek blessings and fulfill their wishes.
People believe that Goddess Tirupatamma blesses those who come with a pure heart, and many devotees offer “Kalyanam seva” (marriage ritual) at the temple, especially women who want a happy married life or are facing issues in marriage.
