History of Harsh Parvat and Harshnath Temple

Harsh Parvat is not just a mountain – it holds a history of more than 1000 years. Around 961 AD, an old temple was built here by a saint named Bhavarakta during the time of King Vigraharaja I. This temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva and was called Harshnath Temple.

Later, in 1679, this temple was badly damaged by the army of Aurangzeb. But the local ruler Rao Shiv Singh of Sikar built a new temple in 1718, right next to the ruins of the old temple. Even today, you can see both the ruined temple and the new one, standing proudly on the hilltop.
